Plain English. No jargon. Everything you need to know about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.
The primary government grant available to homeowners in England and Wales who want to switch to a heat pump.
Extracts heat from outside air, even in cold weather. Suitable for most property types and requires outdoor space for the unit.
Extracts heat from the ground via buried pipes. Highly efficient but requires garden space. Ideal for rural properties.
The scheme does not currently cover Scotland or Northern Ireland.
You must own the property. Renters and landlords face different rules.
Your property must have a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), and any recommendations must be addressed first.
Installation must be carried out by an MCS-accredited installer — we only work with certified partners.
The grant applies when replacing an existing oil, gas, LPG, or electric heating system.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is funded until March 2028. Grants are limited — early applications have the best chance.
Our 2-minute checker gives you an honest initial answer based on your property details.
